Hello friends! I am so excited to finally share my kitchen with you all! This would technically be our second total kitchen renovation. Our first kitchen that we did was in our old house. It was totally unexpected {plumbing issues that caused us to gut everything} but we learned so much doing it which helped us with our current kitchen. Eventually I will get around to posting about our first kitchen as well! I love our kitchen {and love decorating it…and redecorating ;)} and it is one of my most favorite rooms to spend time in.

The Progress
The Remodel Process
The kitchen was our second “big” room that we finished. We moved in around mid April and the kitchen was totally completed the beginning of July. If you do the math, that is about 2 1/2 months that we lived in our house without a kitchen {and flooring through most of the house}! It was rough at times but we made it work. We’re still getting used to cooking in our new kitchen haha.
Demo day included:
-Removing wall between kitchen and dining room
-Opening up doorway from hallway to dining room
-Removing cabinets, wallpaper, etc.
-Demoing drywall
-Removing the popcorn ceiling
-Removing existing electrical (electric can opener, outlets, light fixtures)
-Relocating laundry room
-Removing flooring
Installs included:
-Rewiring all fixtures and outlets to code
-Installing new plumbing
-Installing new drywall
-Adding wall between kitchen & laundry room
-Texturing the walls & ceiling
-Adding new lighting (cans & pendants) & electrical outlets/switches
-Painting window trim
-Painting the ceiling & walls
-Installing the laminate wood flooring
-Installing cabinets & cabinet/drawer pulls (done by Dean’s Custom Cabinets)
-Installing crown molding on cabinets & trim
-Installing sink & faucet
-Installing range hood
-Adding subway tile backsplash
The After
Splurge vs. Save
During most of our kitchen remodel we tried to save more than splurge. We knew this would be one of the most expensive rooms in the house since we went with custom cabinets. The cabinets in themselves were a big splurge because I really wanted it to be “custom” and not “cookie-cutter”. We also have a large gorgeous window so to keep the cabinets “flowing” I had Dean’s connect them by adding a window seat under the window. Another few splurges were the pendant lights over the island and our bar stools. I was obsessed with both and really wanted that area {the island} of our kitchen to stand out. A big save on this kitchen remodel was our counter tops. I love the look of marble counter tops but don’t love the price or maintenance. The quartz counter tops I found that looked like marble were also a little too pricey so we decided to go with a laminate option and upgrade to quartz or marble in a few years. We chose Formica 180fx {we also used it for the counter tops in our first kitchen} Calacatta Marble in the etchings finish. It’s a high resolution laminate that mimics the look of marble and many other stone counter tops. We couldn’t be happier with our choice and get the look of marble without the high price tag! We also saved on our cabinet and drawer pulls. I really wanted to do gold pulls but I think it was going to cost somewhere around $450 – just for the pulls! Instead we decided to go with ones from Dean’s that they included with our cabinets. We figured that in a few years when we change out our counter tops we could also switch out the pulls to gold!
